Cold running issues? Or RAVE valve?

This weekend I took the 98 XP Limited out for the first time since the purchase 2 weeks ago. I still have yet to find the choke bracket screws so I chocked it by hand and it started with no issues. After putting into the water it would idol just fine but as I gave it fuel it bogged horribly.

When at full throttle it went like nothing I had ever seen, it was all I could do to hang on. But again when I would slow it would bog, at one time it died and took sometime to start.

Now for the good part. After about 5 minutes of riding hard and fast the bogging issue was gone even the next day of riding I had no bogging issues even as it was cold. I did notice that one of the exhaust RAVE valve is leaking very condensed black oil, looks like maybe a bad gasket or o ring. Question: Could a gummy sticky RAVE valve cause the boggy running the first day of riding?

Thanks

Yes... a rave that is sticking open, will give you a mid-bog. BUT... you could have had some junk in the carbs... and it got sucked threw.

Regardless... since the ski is new to you, Clean the RAVEs and the carbs.

To clean the carbs they need to be taken off of the ski right? Or can I use carb cleaner while on the ski ?

They need to be taken off ski and taken apart....Get the manual for your ski and research on here how to do it...its not hard if you take your time...
