Nope not at all. It idles in the water around 950-1150rpm.
I figured with the loading of 2 people the revs attained at full throttle (6900 ish) and standard 91 fuel that was pretty good. I don't know what full running RPM it should be but believe it won't be near the 7200 rev limiter. I figured only loosing 200 rpm was ok. This is my first Jetski too.

I am referring to it maintaining rpm at half throttle

If you mean does it run away at any throttle position then no it doesn't.

I wonder if your throttle cable could be slightly binding

Thanks mate I'll check that. You mean it might not be opening fully?

it may be boggy at idle because it is too low, should be around 1500 rpm in the water.
on another note, congrats that the ski it running good.

Thanks mate! Its so much better now.
With re to the idle speed, how do i improve that or could this be an ECU issue?

Ok so i have read the manual and it says to adjust the throttle cable so there is a 30' thou gap between the throttle lever stopper and bracket on the throttle body. Did that and now idles out of the water at 4700rpm. Approximately what should it idle at out of the water to get 1500rpm in the water?

mine had an adjustment screw with a allan bolt. some of the newer ones didn't. mine was a 1999 gsx rfi.
