Check Engine and Volt lights flickering

I have a 2006 Challenger 180 4-TEC with Tower. I purchased it used last year with an estimated 150 hours on it.

It ran fine all last summer. This year the Check Engine light and single long beep started coming on at about 3500 RPM each time I start the boat. I took it to the dealer and they said it was the 50-hour maintenance reminder which they reset (twice), but it still comes on.

Last week the Volt light began flickering as well after an extended idle through a no-wake zone. I checked the battery and it was 60% capacity, so I charged it and all was fine for a couple of hours, then the Volt light started flickering again.

The only other thing to note is the Inlet Clearance System blows a fuse every time I try it, which the dealer said is likely being caused by a short in the ICS.

Could the draining battery be caused by the short? Could I have a bad charging circuit (magneto? alternator? generator?)? How do I tell? The dealer seems unable to diagnose the problem.

Help!

The short isn't' helping things... but that shouldn't keep the battery from charging.

Start the boat, and put a volt meter on the battery. at 5000 rpm's you should see 13.5v to 14.5v. If it is high or low... check over the conections... but chances are, the regulator went bad.

Then again... if you find the other short... you may find wires that are cut or nicked in the charging system too.
