So I have decieded to change the oil filters on my speedster. Once this is done I was going to change oils as well. The previous owner said he was running the ol' mineral base oil in it, but I am not 100% sure on that.
So what oil should I use when I go to refill? I was thinking the low ash syth blend would be good, or would the full synth be better for my engines? The synth blend sounds like the best for them if they have been running mineral based all there lives. Any input welcome. Thx!

its personal preference really. Full synthetic isnt required. The syntehtic blend would be fine and save you a few bucks. I use the Quicksilver full synthetic. Runs 40 bucks a gallon at wal mart.

Luckily a local boat shop stocks it at $28 a gallon for the QS synth blend , so I think I'll be using that.

So the filters came in today...gonna try & change them out this evening. So whats the best & easiest way to purge the air out of the lines once I'm done? Would pulling the plugs and turing the engines over while holding the oil pump wide open do this?

1) Clamp the hose on both sides of the filter.
2)Take the old one out
3) put the new filter on the feed side, and let the oil flow to fill it.
4) hook it up to the bottom hose as the oil is flowing
5) Remove the bolt in the face of the pump to remove any extra air
6) go ride

How much filtering do these filters actually do? I bought about 6 of them at the end of last summer and plan to install a couple this week. Just curious as to what they actually do. They dont look or feel like they woudl do much.

the $28 a gallon QS is not the Full Synthetic blend.

the full Synthetic QS come in a black bottle. the grey bottle is $24.

If I'm wrong.... LMK

I'm not sure what it cost anywhere else really. I just stated the shop sold the QS pwc synth blend for $28 a gallon...there the only ones in my neck of the woods that stock it on their shelves...cost less than shipping it imo & its real close to where I boat.
They also carry the black full synth jug..but its TCW-3 & I wont run that in my engines. I asked them to get a few gallons of the QS pwc API-TC full synth so I can graduate up to it over the summer. Hopefully the prices will stay about the same.

I get the one with pink label at Walmart for 28 bucks. FS black jug is under 40 but I don't have rave valves...
