I just cracked open my gear oil resiviors tonite and what a mess. The o rings were flattened, the oil was black as night and there was a fair amount of water that came out right before the oil drained. Thank God I have new oil and o rings. I was going to put my boat outside for the first time this year. But after I winterized it, fogged it, and then went to buy a waterproof tarp, straps etc, I said hell with it. Its getting the heated garage treatment again!! Thanks to the guys on here for the tips for the gear oil change and winterizing tips. :p

Thats exactly why i change it yearly when i winterize. If that water was left in all winter the bearings would be junk come spring time.

I forgot that I bought wheel dollys last spring so I can wheel it way in the corner of the garage this winter. The winterizing is easy but I just hate for it to sit outside all winter. My crappy 33 year old RV can do that instead. It looks as if though the plug on the starboard motor cone has been crossthreaded...guess thats what happens when you screw metal into plastic. Also anyone think I can go get other O rings rather than Seadoo ones for the future? An O ring is an Oring. I paid $16 for 2 of them...ouch!!

I would use the OEM "O" rings, the manual says you can re-use them if they are in good condition. I don't re-use them, I did once and had a problem. $8.00 ea. is the going price.

You should also use Locktite 518 (or equivalent) anaerobic sealant, and pressure test at 10psi for 10 mins.

Thanks Lou, I was just looking for a little 518. No dice, guess I'm headed to the store. Does anyone know why they call for the loctite? I assume it should be sealed with the O ring? Not sure what the lost guy used but it seemed about half permatex style and half crunchy.

I think any anaerobic sealant would work, I work at an automobile dealership and I used Volvo anaerobic sealant, cause one of the Techs. had some left over.

Sorry to steal a thread, but can anyone explain what is needed, and how to do, the pressure test? Thanks!
