challenger keeps shutting down

my 97 chaleenger 1800 keeps shutting down, im pretty sure its somthing to do with the lanyard dds thingy, it has progessivly got worse, ive tried cleaning the post. used to if i held it just right it would run. now if i keep moving it around i will get the two beebs and crank but one a few seconds it shut off.
Just wondered what else besides it being dirty it could be if anyones had simular trouble Thanks

dess...the post can have internal corroding

It's your post. New ones are like $50. This happened to me last summer. I would be pulling a wakeboarder and then both motors simotaneously shut down, really frustrating. I bought a new post and everything works great now. Good luck
