Hey guys. First, my apologies for my bad writing ... i'm from Belgium so ...

Yesterday, i took my second hand Challenger '98 single engine for a first run. And it was great ! ! ! Starting was a bit of a problem, but once at speed, everything sounded healthy and fine. But on low rpm, like in neutral shift, the engine died a couple of times. And to bring it back to life, i had to push the starter button several times.

And i also noticed that when i pushed the throttle, i had to give the engine some time to 'swallow' ... like it holded back a bit ... and then go nice and smooth to higher rpm ... If i should push forward the thottle in one fast mouvement, i'm sure the engine would fall back, die ...

Today, like the day before, the engine didn't start smoothly. After a few attempts, it lived up and was ready to go.

I ran the boat and after 20 minutes he died. Pushed the starter button several times ... nothing, not a single kick or single sound ...

A whiped out the spark plugs and i noticed they were realy wet ... fuel and oil ... So i put 2 spare spark plugs in place, but ... nothing ... And when i checked the new sparks, those too were all covered with fuell and oil ... So i guess it's a pure carb issue here?

Can someone tell me the carb set up for a Challenger '98 single engine?

I'm hoping the find the answer here ... thanks guys ... ;-)

If you have gray fuel lines that is the first item to measure for replacement, these have caused many problems where the inside dissolves and a goo forms that blocks a lot of stuff, it sounds like you will be rebuilding your carbs soon, snipe has some very detailed photo articles on the carbs for 97, 98 will be very close.

Hey Voodoo, thanks for such a quick reply.

But nope, fuel lines are black ... if that is what you mean ...

And i'll search the carb topic from snipe ... thanks ;-)

yup, go thru the carbs, clena with carb cleaner, no need for rebuild kit, and also clean the raves..(valves under the black caps)
