Challenger 1800 Stereo Problem

I recently purchased a 2000 challenger 1800. The only problem with the boat is that the stereo does not have power. I was hoping it was simply a blown fuse but it is not. I checked both the stereo fuse and the in-line fuse at the head unit.

I checked the primary stereo fuse at the fuse block and there appears to be power there, however I do not show any power at the head unit connector. I am confused as to how there could be a loss of power between the fuse block and the head unit.

Does the ignition key have to be on for the stereo to be on? I have tested with the key on but that could be part of the problem if a switch is broken somewhere. Any other switches I may be missing?

you should have a switch you will have to turn on before it will get power......when you bought this boat did the radio work at that time, or has the radio just all of a sudden gave you a problem?

you will have a yellow and a red wire, both are positive connections, one goes directly to your fuse block always hot or directly to your battery, the other goes to a switch on or ignition on pos.

first thing to check is that you have power on both sides of each fuse if you only have power on one side but not the other then replace the fuse or fuse holder, next if you have power on both sides of each fuse of the yellow and red wire going to the radio but at the radio one does not have power then find the broken spot in the wire, bad connection and fix it, now the other thing that comes into play is you either have to have the key on, or the radio switch on, if you have a battery switch turn it on for one battery or to both for 2 batteries.
