I just put a new SBT engine in my 96 GTS. Its running great and is about 3/4 of the way through breaking it in. Well here comes the weird part you can start it up and ride it around without a problem but after riding it around for 10-15 min while sitting at idle to cavitates trying to get on plane. Once its on plane is takes off and runs great I have gotten it to 41 MPH and it didn't have much left but that's what it is was running at before the engine swap. I have checked out the pump and impeller and everything is tight and there's nothing in the impeller. I would assume its the wear ring but it never did it before the swap so I am kinda surprised to think that it would go that quick. It is the original impeller and wear ring.

Wear Ring

Hi,

My inlaws used to live in East Sebago, so I'm well aquainted with your area. I would guess you use your SeaDoo on Sebago Lake.

Anyway, my 96GTI did practically the same thing you described. It was running fine and then would over rev. and not go on plane. The wear ring had never been changed on mine, 14years. When I changed the wear ring I found big chunks of it missing, I guess it just deteriated with age.

If you can look at the wear ring at night (look out for black flys), with a flash light you should be able to see if there are chunks missing, you probably won't be able to tell much about wear.

The wear ring is not hard to change, a couple of hours, and there are already threads on this forum on how to do it.

Thanks that's what I was thinking it was I just wanted to be sure it wasn't a engine issue. We actually have a place on Embden Lake up in the northwestern part of the state so thats where they stay along with the boat all summer.
