The lake near my home is only 5 miles away. When the wife and I go out for a quick few hours run in the afternoon we are the only one's on the lake. The lake is only three miles across at it's widest. But if we ever broke down it would be a long paddle back. I was thinking of getting a small trolling motor with a collapsible pole and a couple of alligator clips for the battery. It would fit in the front storage bin. Is this a good idea?

likelyhood that both ur skis' will crap out same, to where you'd think you need to mount a trolly engine...? i'd make sure i had a tow rope w/ me.

Are you sure the motor will sit nicely and not bounce around and break something? I am not sure that battery in the ski will be sufficient to power it very far, assuming that it isn't the battery that dies. Since both of you are out there, get a tow rope and figure out which hose to clamp off for towing.

[/I should have been more clear. Allot of the time we don't take out the hydro-cycles pictured . We take our one Seadoo, she rides on back. The lake is absolutely empty other than us. No one to tow us in. If I padded it in the front storage bin it would stay dry and not bounce around. May even carry an extra battery. I check with a fishing buddy of mine and he says I could sit backwards on the ski and hand hold the troller. Or just stay a little closer to the shore. May not be worth all the trouble. Not that I don't have faith in my ski.....But their hard to row !!SIZE]

or here's an idea get a 2nd seadoo :)

the trolling motor isn't a good idea

1st our batteries wouldn't power a trolling motor for very long maybe 10 min.

2nd you have storage and deployment issues how would you deploy this sitting in deep water?.

3rd 2-3 miles isn't bad could be more then a mile from shore at any point.

I think your over thinking a problem...just bring a tow rope, just in case, and yell for help...

In my state you are required to carry a whistle or air horn, a paddle (collapsable) and a tow rope. The worst case would be having to paddle back to shore.

paddle !!

I never go out without a tow rope but it does no go if nobody is there to tow you. I have decided to go with the collapsible paddle.
