I have a 2003 GTX 4-Tec that is taking on water. I’m unable to determine the location of the leak so I’m suspecting it is coming from the carbon ring.
I have a few questions that I’m hoping someone can answer...
1) Is there some sort of inspection (measurement, etc.) that can be performed to determine if the carbon ring is worn and needs to be replaced?
2) I understand that the carbon ring is a ”wear item”. Is there a suggested interval at which time it should just be replaced anyway?
3) According to the service manual there are some special tools required for the replacement. Are these really necessary for the replacement?
