drove my 2000 rxdi millennium edition yesterday pull into sand bar it was kind of rough so the nose was sinking in the water a little i didnt think much of it. sat and hung out for a couple hours get ready to leave it was sinking more and more if i drove it under. well it went under so far it flipped me off and after i flipped it back over it wouldnt start and started going down from there. Had a 16ft aluminum boat with a 25 horse pull me into shore before it went all the way down. pulled it on trailer there is no holes in the fiberglass and the plugs were in tight. what could have led to this taking on water? Pulled the seat off it was filled to the top of the seat with water so is the motor garbage at this point? put the key in today and the electronics still work on it though. tried once to fire it up and it just poofs probably because plugs arent getting a spark from being wet. Any thoughts on what to look for or just tell me the ski is trashed now motor is no good i just lost the 4 thousand dollar investment would be appreciated. thank you

def does not mean motor is garbage yet, you can def recover it, pull the plugs out and keep cranking it til all the water shoots out of there. There will be an INSANE amount of water. When you pull the plugs, make sure to ground the spark plug wires, hopefully your starter and starter solenoid are still good, good luck

ok thank you now how do i crank the water out of the plugs? i am not familiar with doing any work on skis at all. this is my first season with jetskis just got a good experience for a newbie hahaha

You want to get it to run if you can so it will dry out all the areas that NEED to be.

Check your fuel tank for water and your oil tank. No sense in ingesting more water into the engine than what is already there.

If you get it running, you need to run it on the water or trailer backed down the ramp for 30 minutes. This will get the engine hot enough to dry out the residual water.

You will want to get a strong fan and let it lay right over top of the engine compartment and get circulating air into the area. This will evaporate water laying around int he hull and what not. Open up any electrical boxes. Hit the connections with WD-40 as it will dissipate water.

yeah it will not start right now so should i just put the fan over the engine compartment and let it start drying after it dries put new plugs in ? see if it fires then and let it run on the trailer in the water?

to crank the water out of the motor, you remove the spark plugs, ground the wires on the grounding posts so you don't have sparks flying around, and put the dess key in and just keep cranking it til no more water shoots out, then you'll put the plugs back in, and try to start it, but chances are the plugs will still get wet, and you just have to keep doing that over and over again til it starts, and this is of course, assuming your starter and solenoid are still good, which will make life so much easier for you :)

once you get it started, def run it in the water, i think a lot of people will recommend running it hard for 20-30 min to get the engine hot enough to dry up whatever is left

I would for the night. But you do want to get it started as soon as you possible. You do NOT want water sitting in the engine as it rusts super fast on that nice new clean metal....

i was just reading over coastiejoes response, he said run it hard on water/trailer, i think the reason why u shouldn't run on trailer that long, unless the back end is in water, is because it'll heat up your carbon seal terribly, so unless u pull that back, or disconnect the driveshaft, but anyways

just editting, i saw you mentioned running it in water on the trailer, I guess that would work, but you might as well enjoy it and go :driving:

thanks for the info everyone got the water out took an air hose and sprayed the rest of the water out where the water and weeds suck in. letting it dry fully now then going to put new plugs in and see if she fires. now that problems solved what do i do to find where its leaking from?

to find out where it is leaking, you can put it back in the water and see if you can see water coming in anywhere, not sure how the pto boot and the driveshaft look on your ski, but normally there is a plastic cover to stop grease from flying places, so you can see water coming in at your carbon seal if that's a problem, or maybe a hose broke and it was taking on water while you were running?

got it fired up after doing what everyone said took it to the lake ran it on the trailer then took it off and was doing circles with it to see if water would get in and nothing. but at idle with a little gas and the trim all the way down it wants to plunge under with the trim all the way down. it did it all day yesterday and must have filled up overtime without me thinking anything of it i just thought it was rough water. I think my trim could be screwed up in the down position any suggestions?

some skis will "plunge' the front end ,at idle, with the trim down, just dont do that.just the way it is.

I meant on the trailer backed down the ramp. But the best is to ride it for 30 minutes or better. In his case there may be a sinking issue which may cause a additional problems. It is very important to get it running so leaving it on the trailer at the ramp is a good second choice.

 i always appreciate coastie's advice, he gave me a lot of good advice when i was having problems with my skis

Thank you everyone for all the advice. when it was sinking i just thought the worst being a noobie to skis. i just said let it sink im out 4 thousand dollars. but now its running i might just re gel coat and fiberglass the bottom and see what happens then. just going to keep the nose from going under and filling up!!!!!!!

I keep full coverage on all my toys year round. If they sink or get stollen I will simply replacethem within the week... Worth every penny.
That said,, I am very anal about the conditon of all of my toys and they normally last years and years and then I sell them and get new ones...

X2.

Just renewed my insurance and what is covered by different providers varies. You need to read the fine print.
