i tried getting the high speed jet out of a carb but the stupid thing is stripping and feels like its cemented in

is PB blaster ok to use inside a carb? i guess i need a bigger screwdriver too

and i need a new screwdriver to get the low speed jet out too because its embedded like an inch deep and i dont have one skinny enough to reach it

on top of that, the filters are all perfectly clean! i spent 400+ bucks on carb rebuild kits and everything to go along with them... and the carbs apparently dont need rebuilt because the 13 year old boat hasnt been used enough to dirty the carbs. im almost positive nobody rebuilt them because the paint was untouched on the engine, carbs, everything. but it bogged in the mid throttle range... well that was back when the boat actually ran... before i blew a piston!

im having a hell of a time trying to rebuild these stupid things! its one issue after another! grrrrrrr

also... the 53 dollar popoff tester i bought from parker yamaha doesnt form a suction with the back side of the seat, so i cant even test my popoff!

i'm so frustrated with this!

Old jets can be hard to get out... and they are brass, so if the screwdriver doesn't fit perfectly... it will just take the top off. Yes... you can use PB blaster to help loosen things up... but it will destroy any plastic or rubber it hits.

As far as the pop-off.... it doesn't create a vacuum, it makes pressure. You pressurize the front side of the carb until the needle pops.

I know it makes pressure... I'll try to clarify what I meant, I wasn't clear in my post (sorry)

The plastic tube of the popoff tester goes over the hole opposite to the side that the needle/seat goes in (from what I understand). You're supposed to hold the rubber tube over that hole and pump the tester... But the air just comes out the sides of the tube where it meets the metal. It doesn't form a "seal" therefore no pressure can build up inside the carb to overcome the spring and pop off the needle

I need to get the tube sanded down so its perfectly smooth I guess.... It just irks me that I paid 53 for this tool that doesn't even work right out of the box

OK. I though you were trying to suck the needle off the seat.

Your tool may be differnt... but most of the time, we just put the hose over the fuel feed line, and then plug the return line. So, to check the pop-off, the pump side of the carb should be assembled.
