Hello all,
I am looking to purchase the home edition of the CanDoo and was wondering about the computer requirements needed, or if it can work without a computer. Based on the website I am assuming that I will need to also purchase a PC since all I have are apple products. Also, how difficult is it to use (since I am a bit computer/tech handicapped). Thanks for your help
Eric

You can run the software on any of the following: XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10 with .net 3.5 SP 1. Windows RT can't run it due to not having full .net capability.

We use a couple of tablets for dockside and in water lift service that work well if you really don't want the size or expense of a laptop.

Cool, maybe I will pick up a cheap tablet that runs windows so I can use it if I have a problem at the dock. Do you have to have internet every time you use the CanDoo, or only for the updates?

Only for the updates, at this point the designers have worked out the few automation bugs that were in it early on and updates are few and far between.

It's a great system, unlike having to select an application specific software packet in BUDS for a programming session CDP auto detects the MPEM or ECU and runs the correct version and self adjusts timing speed on the comm line. More and more we see machines coming in that the old hand held programmers can't establish communication with at all and BUDS can take 15 minutes of trying to get into a module which is a huge waste of time for something simple like burning a new key for an old 2 stroke machine.

I see you have both an RFI and DI, you'll need it sooner or later and the savings is pretty much an immediate return. Most people on DIY forums have no clue what the average dealer shop ticket for electrical and diagnostic time adds up to but you won't get out for less than the cost of a home version on a first visit.

You'll also gain direct access to the private tech forum over at CDP with your purchase, you can't really put a price on the help you'll get there when problems arise that comes direct from industry professionals with extensive schooling and training in troubleshooting and repair of BRP products.

Your host here on SeaDoo forum hfgreg is one of the vendors you can purchase the unit from.

I use an old Sony vio laptop still running XP, It's an old slow computer for all other purposes, but it works great for the candoo. I just keep it in the tool box with the candoo.

I own one and I'm pretty sure it doesn't work with apple products. Hopefully they change that. Otherwise it's a good purchase if you take care of your own skis

Their website says it is NOT supported by IOS (Apple). But many Apple machines have a partitioned drive that allows for IBM/pc items.

Now if my SeaDoos are not showing a maintenance light, will the CanDoo still pick up if there is anything wrong? I am having issues with my GTX RFI running normally for a while, then not starting. I replaced the rectifier (and it holds voltage around 14 at 3500, but goes up to 15-16 at 5500+ RPMs) and put in a new battery. Since I replaced the rectifier I have not been able to lake test (just ran on the hose <3 minutes). If the CanDoo can pick up potential issues before they become significant, would it be beneficial to hook it up on a regular basis?

Here's the fault data screen for a GTX RFI I had in recently, that mpem will tell you quite a bit about what's going on no matter how well it may or may not be running.
