Can you add reverse to a 1997 GSX?

The installing of the reverse gate is simple- controlling would be the challenge. The only issue I see is having enough travel to move the reverse gate through it's full range of motion. I don't think the stock VTS has enough throw to fully engage reverse. Since I'm not sure how you'd (cleanly) install a factory seadoo reverse handle, it might be cool to use the Yamaha QSTS cable trim system to operate the reverse gate.
 
If you don't need trim, and you want reverse why not get/trade for a GTX. All the parts will bolt on except for the lever and cable length. The lever would be the hard part you could shorten the cable
 
I've got all the parts off of a 2000 GTX sitting in my garage if you ever want to give it a shot ;). I'd let it go for real cheap.
