Out of curiosity what would you guys pay for a 98 gsx ltd over there?
This came with rego, trailer isn't bad and has 3 new rims and tires (about $120 each here)
Rest of ski looks pretty good, I assume I'm going to have to do another fuel sender fix as this one is disconnected.
I gave him $750 and towed her home.

You got a steal in aussie land if the motor is good. She looks clean.

In my area it would be a 2500-3000 machine running. I sold a 99 with a rebuilt motor that was super mint for 3250 a few years back no trailer.

I just did a compression test 125mag
130pto

I lent out my other gauge but it's being dropped back today so I'll compare readings.

Pretty happy with those #s though.

I've got an mpem on it's way, from all my research an mpem part #278001558 should be what I'm looking for.
I guess I will find out when it's in my mail box :)

I got bored after work today so gave it a quick polish.

Just trying to decide what colour Seadooforum sticker to make for the missing BRP sticker on the bow?

Ok, long story short.
Original mpem was just found by previous owner.
I've also found that the start/stop button was jammed on.
I was told they were riding it and it just died and a mech said the mpem was fried.

Am I wishful thinking here or can it just be the start/stop button that caused the issue.

Will know more when I get the mpem tomorrow.

YES, mine did that on the GS and it would randomly just stop while riding and sometimes not start without grabbing the start button pad with a pair of pliers to let the button relax.

I got the original mpem today (wasn't thrown away after all) connected it up and............
She's a runner!!
Just got back from taking it out and I jumped over the ferries wash and when I landed she cut out.
Hit the start button beeeep.
Dess off and clean, back on and no beep beep.
After a few more times a get a beep beep and away we go.
So.... Looks like it was only a dodgy stop/start button and a faulty dess post.

Thoughts?

Anyone in Australia need a mpem from a 98 gsx?? Lol
I have one on its way with a matching key which doesn't look like I'll be needing.

When I picked up the mpem from the previous owner today he told me he was quoted $1500-2k from 2 x different mechs!!!
I think he should have got a 3rd opinion. Lol
Works out great for me though :)

Just an FYI. The way the post works is by making two conecttions to the key. You can see the dot and the ring around the post and inside the key but there is also a switch inside the post. That switch only gets made when you install the key because there is a magnet in the key that pull's the switch closed. This could be acting up.

All good mate, i know how it works.
I'm just heading home now so will swap the post from the challenger.

Will let you know how it goes

I'm putting it down to the key itself or the mpem.
As you pointed out, the mpem needs two things to allow it to start, the magnet and to read the chip in the key.
I can put the key on the post and I get the info center to power up but no beep beep.
Pull it put it back on, beep beep.
So I'd assume the magnetic switch is activating but not reading the chip.
Would you put that down to the key or the post or worse yet the mpem.
The weather was too good to change out the posts so I took the missus out for a ride.
Hit a few waves and after 30 minutes of riding it didn't miss a beat.

Key looks in bad shape anyway and needs replacing as it has gone brittle and has some rust.
