can I drive without the impeller boot...

somehow lost one of the two pieces of my impeller boot... that covers the output shaft as it goes into the impeller... it's a plastic / rubber thing...

Should I worry about it ?
 
I think the part you are talking about is actually attached to the impeller, so it's not on the parts diagram. Here's a link to the part.

The impeller boot keeps the grease from washing out. You can ride it for a while without the boot, but you should replace it as soon as possible. Unfortunately you have to remove the pump to replace the boot. Add some marine waterproof grease when you replace the boot.

You need that seal. Without it, the grease will wash out, and the drive shaft will rust to the impeller. Also... it will be a source of cavitation.
