Hey, I'm new to the pwc. I was out on the water today for the first time. I used only the learning key and did not have the speed over 30 mph. Is this what I want to be doing to break in the engine. The manual does not say much. Any advice would be helpful. My RPMs were mostly at 4500 or less.

Varried engine RPMS, not prolonged at any speed including idle. You can do a few high speed bursts with no harm but do not run at high speeds for any long runs. Basically, the key is not any one set RPM, run through all ranges and not at high speed for more than a burst now and then.

An occasion run to 50 MPH is fine. RPM range from idle to 40 mph. Again, the key is to not hit 30 MPH and stay there. Range it from 25 to 40 for example. I would keep it on plane as below plane there is substantial load on the engine. But an occasion idle "No wake" speed should be done as well.

I just broke mine in I did 1800-4000 for the first 2 hrs and then 1000 more per hr to get to 5 then went up to 3/4 or a little more intermit like said above for the next 5 hrs no towing or anything heavy load till you get to 10 hrs which is seadoos official break in number
