Ok so I bought this 97 GTI which the guy said, and I tried to confirm through this forum and others, as 85 hp but in SeaDoo's own service manual it spec'd as 46 hp.

So my question is, why the huge difference?

All in all Im happy with the old ski, it runs well, not a rocket ship but its family friendly. Being the mechanic-at-heart, my next questions will probably be in the performance forum. Starting with a good tune and clean.

Thanks,
Mark

Welcome,

a 97 GTi will have a 720 engine. It's rated at 85 HP. The lower number you are seeing in the book is the "Pump Power" rating. I'm not sure how they come up with that number... but all of the Jet powered units have that. If you buy a jet outboard engine for shallow waters... they have that double HP number also. (ie, 60/25 jet)

If running properly, you ski should be in the mid 40's for speed... and as you said, it's family friendly. (big, stable, and not too fast)
