Maybe some else has had the same problem. I have just purchased a used 98 Seadoo Xp Limited. My problem is that the 15 amp fuse in the MPEM is blown and there is no power to the machine. I have looked at the wireing diagram and isolated all the connections from the#2 connector on the MPEM. After replacing the fuse I started installing the connections. When I pluged in the connector for the stator it blows the fuse. I am not sure if it is the stator causing this? I have read blogs where the rectifier causes the same problem. Any suggestions on testing the rectifier or stator or have I found the problem in the stator.
Thanks

This just happened to me not to long ago on my 98 xp. Your stator could still be good but as of right now there might be a piece of metal touching the coils on the stator itself which is grounding it out and blowing the fuse. I didnt replace the stator but i did replace the flywheel because the back side of it was kinda chewed up from the starter. If you do decide to takle this your self make sure that the front of the engine is supported and doesnt fall since the cover has a mount for the engine on it and it could damage something on the driveline. Make sure when you put it back together you really clean it out of all metal shaving or it might happen again sooner than expected.

Oh and to check the stator if its your problem youll need a multimeter. Turn it to ohms and check the resistance between the yellow wires ( there should be three try all configurations) Should be between .1 and 1.0. If thats good test continutity positive on one yellow wire to ground it should say OL or an infinite reading if there is a reading on this test ( test all yellow wires to ground) there is something grounding it out. If both these pass it could be the rectifier but hope not cause if im not mistaken its in the mpem and is unservicable and not cheap.

re

hi i have the same issue on my 97 spx
i have removed the magneto cover and the case hardening is coming off the outer magnetic magneto (part bolted onto flywheel) upto 1.5mm deep. the stator is only 2 months old and im trying to test it, with a multi meter set to ohms with the buzzer it beeps when u ground to the black wire and touch every yellow. would this suggest its time for another new stator?
