My 1998 GTX limited is blowing the 15 amp battery fuse in the rear elec. box and sometimes the 15 amp battery fuse next to the MPEM. I have had this problem before and it was the stator windings being shorted to ground. replaced the stator and problem resolved. The resistance check on the stator is fine. I do a battery disconnected test from the battery rear 15 amp fuse to ground and I have no short. ( with the bad stator it was showing a short to ground untill I disconnected the stator connector) easy find. This problem is intermittent. Sometimes after replacing the fuse it will start and run for a while. Then with no pattern or time the second or 5th time you try to start it the fuse blows. Sometimes it blows even before you try to use the starter. Anybody have any similar problem that I can start my troubleshoting trek on? Nothing more fun than troubleshooting intermittent electrical problems!!!

I am assuming " starter relay" is what I would refer to as the solonoid. One side has the fuse and red wire going up front and the other side has the starter wire on the other post alone.

Just wondering if you found the solution to this problem, I have the same problem, and I have replaced reg/rec, stator assembly, and flywheel. Any help would be great.
Thanks

Blowing same fuses on my 98 GTX Ltd.

I had the exact problem with my GTX Ltd. last year and found that after I flipped it in the water, some water leaked into the INFO guage pod. Found this out after about 12 hours of trouble shooting and testing and a pile of 15 amp fuses in both locations. There was only about 1 inch of water in the bottom of the pod. Opened the housing by removing the face, put it back together with a good seal and haven't had a problem since. Not too sure if your sea got wet but it was sure aggravating as it would start on the trailer most of the time but once I got it in the water it would sometimes crank once then nothing. After this wnet on for a couple days I noticed a little moisture under the INFO face glass and thought what the hell I'll take it apart. Good thing I did as it probably saved me a little more hair and time:willy_nilly: Good Luck
