Best way to "run dry"?

Is the best way to run my 95 Speedster dry for several minutes on each side to hookup the flush kit and run? Or should I just haul it to the ramp and back it into the water and run on the trailer.

I'm trying to run each engine for a few minutes a month over the winter (Georgia) as a little preventative measure.

you can start it and not be on hose for a few secs.
or just buy trickle charger to keep battery charged and fog engine to prevent rust on internals

Last spring, one side wouldn't start. Mechanic said there was a slow leak in a seal in the engine, letting oil into the combustion chamber (hence a lot of smoke on each startup). Once he cleared the oil (removed plug and cranked, oil blew out) it started. Just trying to minimize that next spring. I know I'll eventually have to re-do the seals, but trying to buy a little time.

If you start it once a month you should fog the engine each time too.

My wife gets cranky if she sits a long time too. But so far she don't leak.

The best temporary "fix" to keep the crankcase from filling with oil due to leaking crank seals is to pinch off the main oil line when the boat is in storage.

Yeah its not really practical to go starting it monthly. I would keep it winterized and pinch off the oil lines like lou suggests.
