Battery tender/beeping and no start

I say magnetic, I may be wrong, I mean a cap lanyard..
This is the one I got as a replacement...NON- DESS

is this right?

it would be if your post is the one that has the little button you can push down and then it'll let you start the ski. if you have a silver contact on top and a silver ring around the outside, its a DESS lanyard.

It would help if you could post a pic of your post and the lanyard you're using.

this is a DESS post:

this is a regular one, they're such an uncommon failure, pics of these are 100:1 in favor of a dess post:

Yea strizzo,
its the second one, a NON-DESS post...the "push button" one... and the lanyard I will be using is http://www.shopsbt.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=sea-doo-floating-lanyard-non-dess

when I cranked the other day, I was using a 3 prong lanyard, and it worked fine, even fired up with the 3 prong lanyard.
then, last nite, nothing with that same lanyard...
the new lanyard just got there today, so im going to try that as well..
I'm hoping it was just the battery issue and none of this lanyard/mpem wallet-draining stuff!
Only an hour more to go, then i'll find out..
and I'll take some pics

forget the lanyard, push the switch down, and push the start button, see if she fires.

looking at your video again, i can hear the un click from the first start button press right at the beginning, then the second one wakes up the gauges. this is normal behavior when the MPEM thinks there is no lanyard connected. i would trace wiring from the post to the MPEM, i bet something has gone wonky there. unless the MPEM has somehow been convinced it is a DESS version now. i vaguely remember someone having this happen to their a while back.

ok, good, I honestly don't even care if its a post issue, I just replaced that one before I dismantled the ski... as LONG AS its NOT an MPEM issue, I'll be happy.
so, since you said I can push the button down and try, I'm assuming all that lanyard/cap does is HOLD it down the entire time the ski is running...yea, that post is a newer used one and so is the button under it (was kind of surprised to see that the button under there is JUST like the start button on the handle, it just has a post/tab depressing it as opposed to a finger)

-Battery ALWAYS disconnected from ski positive (red) and negative (black) wires while charging with ANY type of charger/tender/maintainer. Not worth risk of damaging any components on ski. .

-I installed 1/4"-20 studs, and locknuts with flat washers for quick disconnect and reconnect as my battery comes out of ski and on battery tender jr. after every ride. The water that is on battery from riding around on lake will cause a discharge on battery at rest.

true!
You know, another thing I noticed is that FROM the factory, the two screws and square bolts that came with the battery DONT look like shiny metal/SS, they actually have almost like a powder-coated look to them. Should I replace the bolts with nice metal ones, or are the stock ones ok?

I despise almost every battery tender/charger out there for small power sport batteries. with exception to the battery tender junior (or other Deltran chargers) Maybe a few other exceptions...... Many of them will cook & boil out a good battery & destroy it. But, I don't think that would happen in 24 hours?

I agree this is good common sense, if the battery and system are functioning properly it's unnecessary to top off the charge more than every few months.

Besides shortening the life of the battery, here's another good reason not to leave your tender constantly running:

-Stock ones that come on battery are suffice. I just am avid customer of ace is the helpful place hardware and love their selection. They have premade quarter 20 studs in various lengths with a slot cut in end for a flat blade so you can tighten them. Get a 4 nylon locking nuts, 6 SS quarter flat washers, two 7/16' wrenches, a flat blade and a file and install. The file is to shave down the sides of two of the 4 SS nylon locking nuts so they will fit in the battery terminal little square boxes.

-On your battery issue, perform a hydrometer test. It is good to have one of these around the house for autos also. Can help rule out other issues that may be caused by poor electrolyte level in existing battery.

Yep. I use stainless fasteners with stainless wing nuts. Keep a wire brush in the vicinity and brush off the terminals as necessary before connecting for the next ride.

i used to use the ones that came with the magnapower agm batteries from advanced auto parts, then one day in the middle of tampa bay, i had my ski cut out, then after towing it back to shore, found one of the nuts completely partially disintegrated, i now use stainless ones

Yes,
I think I'll get stainless this weekend.
ok, well,moment of truth...headed home.
I'll check in shortly.

rob, could you please post pics of your set up, i am curious what it looks like

There is a god.. Thanks guys for putting up with all of my paranoid questions.. All in all, it appears to be the 3 prong lanyard that chose to work sunday, but not again after that..
Here's the vid http://youtu.be/pN5XCq-ZwRo

Thanks again for all the help.. Either way, lesson learned here... DO NOT leave the battery tender plugged in while connected to the ski! Even if this wasn't involved in the lanyard chaos...

Yes! So elated! Now, back to the last and final piece to the puzzle! Carbs rebuilt and installed.. Rebuild kits, needles n seats will be here from SBT tomorrow, as well as ocod 's donor carb body... Hopefully tackle it this weekend!
And 68ragtop, that's the neighbors cat and he's literally been sitting in the foot wells of my ski throughout this entire project, so it's only right that I consult with him before each twist of a wrench on this ski! I even had to put a kitchen cabinet door on the seat when I'm not home bc he LOVES sleeping on it!
