Battery question

Hello all. I have read all the warnings about boosting the battery on the Sea Doo. I have a 96 XP and was wondering about this because all the posts I've read are unclear. Is it only dangerous to boost with a charger or another running vehicle that is putting out more than 12 volts? Is it ok to boost with one of those jumper boxes. It's basically like hooking two batteries in parallel. Also, if that is ok, would it be ok to put two batteries in my ski? It seems I'm always dealing with a dead battery. Maybe due to being an older ski that is sometimes hard to start.

Battery

Never jump the battery in your SeaDoo with anything except another battery, and with the donor vehicle NOT running. The reason being you will blow out the MPEM, or at minimum a diode in the MPEM. I know from experience.

I quess you could put another battery in parallel with the original battery, I wouldn't. I don't know where you would physically put it, and if you get a dead cell in one battery (which is what usually happens) the other battery won't start the ski unless you disconnect the battery with the dead cell.

If you get a good battery it should last 4-5 years. Trickle charge (1.5-2amps) a couple of times a month and you shouldn't have a problem.

If you are having trouble starting your ski, and a new battery doesn't fix it you need to look other places. Fuel system (especially if you have grey fuel lines), carbs., starter, etc.

I would probably mount the second battery in the front under the storage area. I will first try to find a good strong battery and try that first. My problem comes usually after I've run for a bit, then when going to start again, the engine floods. Not sure if this is a carb problem or the fact that it doesnt get used very often, which will change if I can get it to be more dependable. Then the battery goes dead from cranking.
