i've got a 1994 sea doo spi 580 and i don't know why but the battery keeps dying. it will be ok for a day or 2 but if i don't take it out for a week the batteries dead. it's a new battery so i think i'm getting a constant draw somewhere. any ideas or anyone have this problem, is it common or is something messed up? please help me thanks

Yep... unhook it, and see if it goes dead. If not... you will want to check the "Speed Limiter" in the electrical box. It controls power to the CDI.

Oh... I guess the regulator can be bad too. If it's bad... it can let power back into the stator, and drain the battery.

If you put an AMP meter between the battery, and the power cable... you can disconnect things in the electrical box, until the draw goes away.

BUT... just because a battery is new, doesn't mean it's good.

you said If you put an AMP meter between the battery, and the power cable... you can disconnect things in the electrical box, until the draw goes away.
so i could hook up the meter and there should be no reading on the meter if everything in the boat is ok correct? I'm bad with electrical.lol

Yes... if you lift one of the battery cables, and put an amp meter in line... you should see almost zero draw. (milliamps are normal) If you see 0.1 amp... then there is a slow draw.

Of you see a draw... disconnect the red wire from the voltage regulator, and see if it drops. If not... disconnect the speed limiter.

Thanx for the info Tony you the man! I'll try that out in a week or two when i pull her out of winter mode. Can't wait!

could it be from the gas gauge cause the gas gauge only works when the batteries in? an idea. it's the old analog type.

So it turned out to be the speed limiter. I found out by unplugging the fuse to see if the battery was draining. One thing i did notice was that after i changed the speed limiter the gas gauge only came on when the ski was running instead of being on constantly. So all in all it's fixed thanx for your help guys.
