New to the forum, would appreciate any help. 2004 GTX 4-Tec battery cables repeatedly work loose then it won't start. Had this problem with previous battery. Installed new battery but problem persists.

Get lock washers an if that does not solve it get stainless steel hardware and lock washers so you can tighten them very well.

Also, if you can angle the cables in such a way that they slightly PULL in the direction that would want to tighten the bolt it may help.

There is new stainless hardware on the battery including lock washers, I might need something more substantial than what came with the battery. I like your idea about positioning the cables to pull in the tightening direction. I will try that.

That might do it. I am just concerned the Lock Tite might interfere with the electrical contact between the screw and the terminal. Should be OK if I am careful.

Thanks,

You can also get some Lock- tight as well.

Thanks,

Just wipe it on the lower threads of the bolt. Let it fill the threads, not a heavy coating.

Is your battery mounted securely? There should be a U-shaped clamp over the top of it bolted down snugly.

Just got to thinking.. If the battery is not moving then the cables are. Once you get it mounted and how you want it, use some wire ties to hold the heavy battery cables in place. If they can't bounce side to side they can't loosen the bolts,,,
