The bank just bought a 05 SCIC Sportster...From reading posts, I am spending some money on HydroTurf so my upgrade funds are limited...I have the stock stereo system (Clarion 50Wx4 and two speakers)...Question...How can I upgrade for least amount of money A) Buy 2 better speakers B) Install 2 more speakers (and where would they go) C) Upgrade stereo?

Dont need woofers, etc..Just need to get my BANG for my BUCK!

Thanks
Clint

Problem is, the stock Clarion headunit is only a 2 channel. you could series wire in 2 more speakers and be fine. You can get the same clarion speakers on Ebay, new, for like $60. I on the other hand would recommend a good headunit and add 2 more speakers. You could easily do that for $250, do a search for "Marine stereo package" There are a few on the for far less than that. Never messed with Pyle much so I cant comment on the quality but they sell ALOT of stuff so it cant be that bad???

The best bang is the problem, as soon as you spend the summertime shopping for the best for the buck the price drops. Do you want Jay-Z, a country female vocalist or the orchestra to ride with you and serenade into the sunset? If you know how to convert your music to mp3 Jensen has a unit with 2gb internal storage, anything tape or cd is asking for trouble with dampness and shaking that goes automatic with watercraft.

I would go the route of a new head unit and 4 good speakers. You can buy 2 sets of kicker 6.5 for under 140 new. Then around 120 for a good head unit. Very easy install.

now your talkin... i dont know about you guy's but here in az i kinda life in little mehico, so i can go right down the street to one of these stereo shops, or heck even the flee market on saturday and pick up a good pair of something nice like some boston acoustics, for like $40 buck a pair.cant beat that, they also gots all kinds of head units... you may wanna check into it!!!! sometimes these guy's come up with some good stuff! it's usually worth the shop around!

speakers take a beating in boats though. between the water and sun, they tend to not hold up. Make sure you buy marine stuff.

the only reason i mention in is alot of new manufactures are using plastic cones and raised voice coils... you can beat the heck outta these types i run some in my 96XJ we go out rock crawling and i will take it to the car wash pop open the doors and wash inside out with power, and got a buddy that ran some plastic coned speak's in an older malibu; has not complained yet so they must still be bumpin'!!!

Thanks for the replies...Couple more questions...On my current stock set up, how long will it take to run my battery down when not running? Also, where is the best place to place an extra set of speakers on a 05 Sportster and what is the best method for drilling the hole? Thanks

I dont know your boat real well, but looking at the pics i could find on the internet. It looks very easy. Looks like one would fit on the left side between the back seat and the rear facing seat. Then on the other side just slightly in front of where the throttle controls are, down on the wall about 8 to 10 inches down. Or if you are scared to put holes there, you could use the area where the walk through is. On those walls, should have easy access from the storage compartments. For 6.5's a 5 inch hole saw works perfect usually. You can get a set at harbor freight for $15. Use a corded drill and it cuts like butter.

As far as battery, it is hard to say. Before I added the 2nd battery I had sat for 30 to 45 minutes with the boat off without a problem and that was running an amp. But i always took a charged jump pack just in case.
