is there a post for changing the engine in a 1999 gtx ltd. it would not crank got down to removing head and found metal shavings in one cycinder or is it time to take it to the shop for service?

There isn't a post for removing that particular engine... but get the service manual, and do it yourself. A shop will rape you on labor, and most shops are too busy during to summer to do anything for you.

Once you start to dig into it... if you have questions... make a post, and someone will help you out.

thanks for the quick reply
i found a free download for the manual did so and looks like i can do some top end work with out taking engine out is this possible with out special tools and is it a pain? is there anything i should watch for other than losing parts and tools down inside? the pistons move up & down and the shaft will turn but it is very hard to do

If you crank is good... yes you can do a top end without removing the engine. For a top end... you really don't need any special tools.

once the jugs are off... stuff the bottom half with rags to keep from dropping junk into the bottom half.

remove the engine

almost impossible, to set the cylinder..(cylinder is one cast, not double barrels), onto the pistons, while keeping rings aligned. Also, your gonna need to rotate the motor up, to remove the cylinders, unless you use the bolts, to double-nut it, to remove studs.....either way bud, its a bia#$
