Honestly you will get more help here than on the premium side. Join premium by all means it supports the site

96 XP800!
Keep the 2 strokes alive!

This may sound trivial, but make sure your adjustment marks are lined up on the oil pump. If not, you could be low on lubricate at WOT which could also be destroying your engine. Don't want to cause a panic, but worth double checking.

I had a revelation. I think Sea Doo changed the rave housings in 1997 (for whatever reason) and thats why they needed the slotted raves. The housings that ended up working for me are off of a '96. Maybe the raves were slightly sticking, causing my issues. Boat hauls ass now, I actually found out I need an impeller because of cavitation.

I experienced this with my 97 XP when it was new. For the entire first season, the only way I could get it up to full RPM was to turn around and jam it to full throttle from low RPMs while going back over my on wake. Eventually they started improving and opening normally. Fast forward 15 years just after complete rebuild. RAVEs were leaking oil bad. Housings were worn in oval shape. Rebuilt RAVEs completely including new housings. Original OEM from dealer (green bellows) and o-rings. Oil leak fixed but started experiencing the same issue of not reaching max RPMs unless I adjusted the red caps two turns out past flush plus hammering the throttle from low RPMs. It took a season and a half for them to wear in to operate normal again.

Thanks to this thread, next time I'll know to get the updated housing and bellows.
