Just wondering if all 10hr services are the same... I remember reading about guys who were paying like 400 for the 10hr service but i just called in regards to my speedster and the guy said the 10hr service is 199... i know that all boats are different and require different items.. just wondering if there are any questions to ask as far as what is being done or if it will list everything that was changed/inspected... also wondering if the 199 is a fair price for this boat.. thanks

Not sure if the boat world is the same as the auto industry but I know from dealer to dealer the 30000 mile service on my truck was drastically different. You would think they would both perform the same 'factory recommended' services and costs should be somewhat comparable but some seem to do their own thing!!!

You should ask the dealer what he is going to perform for the $199 then make sure that covers everything recommended by BRP

Like they said, ask the dealer if the price quoted was for one or two engines and what all it includes. I was quoted a price then shocked to find out it was only for one engine. The girl who gave the price didn't know my boat had 2 engines. Also, when you pick up your boat verify that they give you the right key back. When I picked up my boat, the tech said he put the key in the glove box. Since the cover was on I did not want to really unsnap half of it just to verify. When I got home after a 45 min. drive to wash her down I realized they gave me the wrong key. The tech's programmed my key for another boat. So they couldn't even just drive me out my key. To get a key programmed the dealer has to have the boat. Long story short, I made them pick up my boat, take it back and reprogram another key and bring it back to me the same day.

Well just got back with the boat... here is what the $199 covered:

  • Spray engine electrical and pivot points w/ anitcorrosive
  • inspect spark plugs
  • inspect ignition system
  • inspet fuel injection system
  • change engine oil and filter
  • inspect and lube throttle cables
  • lube and adjust steering/reverse cables
  • inspect ehaust system and retorque hose clamps
  • inspect motor mounts and retorque
  • topped off coolant - was low
  • grease bearings
  • inspects battery
  • test charging system
  • inspect impeller
  • inspect housing
  • inspect drive shaft
  • cheked for errors - no codes

Lots of "inspects" on that list. I'm always suspicious how much effort is put into those inspections (cars included). Usually when I get a list like that, I find out how much the price is for the actual work items on the list, like changing the oil, lubing items, and do the inspections myself. I haven't done a service on the boat, but none of those items seems beyond the abilities of the basic shade-tree mechanic. I've got a friend who has the pump tool to suck out the oil, so I'll probably opt to do the whole thing myself and save the money for upgrades, gas, etc.

Did they have any comments about your modifications? did they fix that light that had the stripped hole?

The only comments about the mods were all thumbs up.. the guys loved the system and said that the horn was something that the boat should have had anyway but a good addition.. the light that had the stripped hole I completely forgot about.. probably cuz i fixed it myself by just adding some thread tape.. hasnt let up yet... but everything else went nice and smooth.. they fixed the ski locker strut that was detached when i picked it up.. apparently its just epoxy that holds the latch or whatever it is.. so they redid that for me..

the 1 thing that got me was this.. i first buy the boat and take it out and everythign was fine.. at 3 hours i start getting 4 beeps with the cluster lighting up "Sensor".. then i use the boat till 6hrs still getting the 4 beeps everytime i put the key in... at 6hrs i have the system installed.. pick up the boat from the guy that did the system and no more beeps and no more lighting up "Sensor"... ride the boat till 4 hrs without getting it and then i take it into get service... pick it up and take it home.. put the key in to test the system after reattaching the sub and back to getting 4 beeps and lighting up sensor lol... so idk whats going on.. they claim they didnt get any codes when tey hooked up so idk..

Maybe it reset something in the computer when the battery was disconnected to put the system in. I would take it while you know you are getting the beeps.
