I have read on this forum that you can replace a VTS motor on a '98 GSX Limited with a power window motor from a Nissan or a Ford. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of this? Any numbers?

callmike2 posted a link for the rubber boot protector which was very helpful.

Thanks,

Peter

Have you pulled and tested the motor.? You can actually test it in place. Unplug it and run wire straight from your battery. It will go one way, then reverse the wires and it should go the opposite direction.

The motor appears to be in excellent condition.

In the past using the trim switch while underway would blow the fuse. On the trailer I tested the VHS briefly with key on and it worked fine. I then separated the "greenish" wires inside the housing and connected both the male and female ends directly to the positive side of the battery. Motor did not run.

Did I test the correct wires?

Thanks

dad, good links, thanks.

I disconnected both wires inside the housing. I then connected the green wire directly to positive, turned on the ski, and then pushed the down button. I could hear the motor but the trim gauge didn't change. No noise when I pushed the up button.

I then connected blue wire, turned it on, and heard the noise when pushing the up button, nothing for down. Again, gauge did not move.

Was I supposed to connect both wires to the battery at the same time?

I then put everything back together and the trim and the gauge worked fine. The last time I used it the fuse blew while underway. I will test the ski underway tomorrow and report the results.
