Unfortunately I purchased a SBT engine to replace the 717 in my 97 GTI. They charged me $400 for a bad cylinder which I know was good when I sent in the core. They have told me that I could purchase a good cylinder and send in and they would refund me the $400. They keep referring to this as a 4105 cylinder. They said any salvage yard would know what that is. Can anyone help me out? Do you know what they are referring to as the 4105 cylinder? Anyone know where I can get one for CHEAP? I have now invested WAY to much money in this ski and would like to try to recoup some of this $400. Thanks in advance.

Did they say what exactly was wrong with the bad cylinder that it could not be reused? (could not be bored or sleeved)

Sounds like they could have salvaged it by re-sleeving. According to their website, "If your sleeve(s) is damaged or your current bore is beyond the max service limit - don't worry, we re-sleeve at no-charge."

I would ask why they couldn't re sleeve it.

Just to clarify, the statement about re sleeving at no charge is in their cylinder exchange section. They do state in a pdf in another section that a cylinder for a 717 is 400. That being said I think I'd ask them why if you sent them your cylinders for a cylinder exchange and the re-sleeve is free, why wouldn't it be free on a rebuild as well.

Another great thread for SBT.
Seriously though if you need a 720 cylinder minnetonka4me can hook you up and even ship it directly to them to save you double shipping.
