Another problem :( Sucked up a rope **HELP**

Ok, this one is for sure my fault I had a rope tied to the front that I used when going to pick up family at another cottage on the lake, I didn't remove the rope I just put it under the front seat (01 Utopia 185) took the cousin's our on the tubes etc. no problems. On my way back to the cottage after all the fun, I hear a noise, look out front and I don't see the rope, I knew right away what happened.

It sucked in maybe 10 feet of rope, I tried to drive it and it went ok, but then it wouldn't go past 10mph. I would push the throttle and after 10mph it would just rev to 6000rpm but the boat wouldn't go anywhere.......

Thoughts?

What would make it rev and not go anywhere? Something broke between the engine and impeller? It still moves forward at idle like normal.

The boat is in the water, can't see underneath it, trying to stick my hand in the back I can't feel any rope.

I am going to try and nurse it to the boat launch tomorrow and take it out and see if I can tell from under it what's going on.

The rope is wrapped around the drive-shaft and impeller, and is causing the pump to cavitate. That's why you only get thrust at idle speeds. You will need to get the boat out of the water and remove all of the remaining rope. It takes very little to mess with the proper flow of water, so don't give up halfway through and think it will be good enough. It really all has to be removed.

If you're thinking of limping the boat to the launch, keep an eye on the tell-tail of cooling water out the back. If the rope manages to plug the cooling passage from the pump to the engine, do not run it. You will have to be towed.

Ok, I idled the boat to the boat launch, took half an hour, put it on the trailer and went underneath. To my surprise the intake grate moves, I was able to see the end of the rope so I spun it around one turn at a time until I got it all out, 10min total and it was all out and now the boat drives just like before. Fewf.

Now on to my next problem, creating a new thread.
