Hello Folks:

I'm new to this forum because I'm about to pick up my first Sea-Doo. I've been riding PWC for some 20 plus years. So I guess that makes me an Old Man but I'd never know it without looking in a mirror. Anyway looking forward to helping anyone out if I can and getting advise when needed. I live on Lake Lanier in GA and its fuller than full of water, its also full of some dumb SOB's. :reddevil: I just moved down here from Oshkosh, WI where I used to live on lake Winnebago, I'm going to miss driving my snowmobile 120 mph over the frozen lake this winter but I'm looking forward to driving my boats in a Deep Lake next spring.

Welcome to the seadoo forum SGT. We have lots of "older" members around here that say the same thing...:rofl: You'll find this to be a friendly place with lots of active members eager to help out and offer good advise to your questions.

I see your from Wisconsin. Had a great time up your way many moons ago. I was a young man of 18, from Alabama, freezing my patooties off up there!!!!!! Snow storms strong enough to be classified as hurricanes with white stuff, no water!

Now, your living in my neck of the woods. Lake Lanier is a nice lake. Or, should I say it was a nice lake. It's also the main water reservior for 3 states; Alabama, Georgia and Florida. There has been a struggle over who controls the amount of water it releases each year, for several years now. To protect the fresh water mussels, politicians have made them release more water than society needs, pretty much wasting it. Atlanta's thirst for that water is insatiable. Thats why you'll notice, so many sand bars showing. Also, how far the water has receeded from around the islands. The last time I saw it, it was wayyyy down. I hope, it's risen a bit since. They blamed it on pour snow melts...

I have actually moved 23 times in my life, I have lived in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia 4 times, Oklahoma 2 times, Arizona, California, Washington the state twice, Iowa, Wisconsin 4 times, New Jersey, Korea, Germany and Japan, not in that order. I've owned ski's since 1982 and I have been threw probably about 10-20 mostly Yamaha and Kawasaki's, 1 Honda. I've owned 10-15 Snowmobiles since I was about 13 years old and I've owned motorcycles lots of them since I was about 10. I love anything that gives my ass a ride that has a motor. I’ve owned boats, sail, motor and ice. I've got a ton of operator experience and limited mechanical experience, retired at 39 from the Air Force Reserve as a C-130 Crew Chief. I spent 8 years in the Army as a grunt and got out and wanted a skilled job so I joined the AF reserve. I follow my wife’s career, she and the Army are the reasons I move. I’ve been married 23 years and got married when I was 23. Job’s: I’ve been a paper boy, a burger flipper, a Soldier an Air Men, a Deputy, an Electrician, an Electronics Tech, a Salesman and a Realtor and at the moment I don’t have a job and don’t want one. I’ve got two son’s one is 20 years old and he’s a Navy Nuke and a 14 year old that’s a freshman in HS and wants to be a Marine. That’s my life in a nut shell.

Sorry sometimes I maybe not the most tactful SOB but when you are constantly the new guy you learn you don’t beat around the bush or you get walked on. I think I’ve got a few experience points that may help someone not make the mistakes I’ve made, and as a human we never stop learning from each other that is why I joined this blog.

Now about Lake Lanier, it’s overfull, the river is high and I don’t think they can let too much water out without flooding someone down the chain. My only beef with the lake is on weekends this summer you couldn’t go ¼ mile without having to avoid another boater or boaters, I’ve honestly never been in water so freaking busy it is almost scary but the weekdays are excellent.

I have to agree with Duckbutter. OH! Excuse me, SGT! I'd salute you but you have to salute me. LOL. I don't want that. LOL. Long time ago and another lifetime. Experience is what we've got. I do not want to go do things I did when I was a kid anymore. I tell kids I have forgetten more than they have ever known. LOL. I'm still learning right now. I won't go into details.

Yeah, when I was up your way, it was in Great Lakes. I'm sure you know all about that place. Haven't been back since. After 10 years, twice around the world, the aborted mission in Tehran, loosing our choppers and aircraft, the Panama Canal, Contra........I gave it up. Now, I'm just an old man with fingers that move pretty quickly. Oh, my age, ...If you remember the 444 days our Embassy was held hostage, that should be a clue. :rofl:

There was an article in the paper this morning, kinda weird, since we were just talking about it, but I wont' go into details.

We had a get together for the forum back in early summer, in Venice Florida. It was so cool. I towed my ski down in the back of a cargo trailer I rented from U-haul. When we got to the little island KustomKarl had set up for us, there was a dealer with the new iS series. I don't remember if it was the RXT or RXP but I do remember, the thing was a powerhouse. When you got on and put the lanyard on, you could feel the seat rise up a bit. That was the intelligent suspension system. And when you hit the throttle, man, it was like being on a rocket. That thing was so awesome and fast. I had no desire to have one because at my age, I know everything new, at some point becomes old. Which means, your going to have to work on it. In the newer 4 TEC models, I'd have to have a host of new equipment in my shop to take care of one. Maybe one day, when the 2 strokes are no longer supported, I'll move on. But now, with my GTX (1997) hitting in the high 50's, peaked at 60 on the info center, ........ I can say I'm happy. I did buy a Solas for it this past summer. I saw no real improvment, so I'm going to remain a bit leary on them. I actually should have done some homework and decided on the progressive pitch myself and taken it up just slightly. I may have been more happy with my choice.

Oh, BTW, there was another article about Lake Lanier in the paper again this morning. Seems if politicians have their way, Atlanta will have to look for another source of drinking water. The lake (manmade) was never intended for use as a drinking water supply..............we'll see what happens.:cheers:

Snipe, Yeah I know that new iS is gotta be something but your talking right around 13 grand and up for a ski. To me thats a lot of money for a ski, hell the nine I spent for a two year old ski is too much. Anyway I'm a two stroke Lover too I never would have thought they could have gotten this kind of performance out of a four stroker. I do love the ease of maintenance and the simplicity of a two stroke its just so straight forward. At one time in my life, everything but the car and bike was a two stroke. Even Lawn Boy's are four strokes now days. I almost bought a left over 2008 GP1300R yamaha Ski but it only had 165 hp and its a two seater and I wanted three so I could tow. I'm glad I went to Sea-Doo if you go to Riva's web-site you'll see that its cheaper to up grade a Doo than it is anything else. Anyway take it easy I'll talk to you later.

I hear ya. I want to go out an buy all kinds of new toys right now but I know better. Not until the economy picks back up. Plus I have to see about the domestic problems.
