am I A dink

im at my cottage and my girlfriends kids and there friends are there and all want to ride
and the answer is no but later on where in lake Ontario no one around so why not,
after a long ride I wave them in and over the tubing rope he goes,
lets tow the machine back to the launch--then back to the cottage to cut the brand new ski line out,
ok now the girl friends son wants to ride and of course lets go around the point where we are out of sight,
after a long wate here comes my ski in tow and only the nose is visable the fins on my brand new X-SC are
chewed, motor full of water, am I a dick for keeping this machine to my self...
Is there a main drain plug to empty this out???

Man,,,,, that's a tough one to swallow.

Part of the enjoyment of owning skis is to share them. That said, I always treat things that ate not mine as they are mine, with great respect.

The rope was either carelessness or lack if experience. I would think there really isn't a way that someone can hurt a SC per say.

Pull the plugs and crank the engine to get the water out. You want to get it running ASAP to prevent the engine from seizing. However, in your case you may have metal in your engine already based on your description. If so, you are going to have to open it up to see the extent if damage.

No you're not a dink for wanting them to yourself. I have the same issue. My family et al treat borrowed stuff like
crap and friends we go to the lake with treat their stuff and anything borrowed like gold (same as me). I prefer never
borrowing anything so I have no issues. It causes some hard feelings when I let my friends go out but not my "family".

YUP! this! There's very few people I'd let ride my restored XP. So far the only person that has other than me is my buddy that has his own restored XP and another mint XP. We're on the same level as far as how we treat our stuff. Most can't compare.

Unless I can fully trust the person (they have their own ski) I'm gonna say no. Thankfully here you need a license to ride, so that rules out 99% of the people that would request to drive. Heck, my wife drove my Speedster for the second time EVER this weekend, and we have owned it new since '99. She also doesn't want to drive, but I wanted to kneeboard. I'd be jacked up.

came down to the C-clip that holds the collar up against the carbon ring some how came out
and the water gushed in there, I tell every one if something seems wrong shut her down,
the water shut this one down, got here running still need a new charger though,
cant see how that C-clip could come out its almost impossible to get it in.

No yer not a dink.
I am the only person that has ever set a butt on my '07 since purchased new because of the hard le$$on$ I learned on my '99 GTX LTD when I had it, and gave in to let others ride it.

I actually had a family member (entitlement generation)once exlain it to me this way... " If you invite me to ride it, I should not be responsible for fuel or any damage that happens while I'm on it, I should get to ride it wherever I want, how I want, for as long as I want".
Uh huh. Ummm... Lemmee think about that for a second... Ummm.. NO.
ALOT of people think that way. Most just have the common sense not to advertise it.

As for my short list, the only person on it is my wife...and she has her own ride.

ya I made my own 4'' with the K&N filter

oh and now my girl is telling me the thing is to fast and dangerus,
women are dangerus to, ive never seen a jet ski stab or shoot
any one have you,
also I noticed that C-clip is only on one half of the shaft how good is that for balance at 8,000 rpms?
I think I will try to put 2 on for balance reasons,
that collar had to move back by harmonic vibrations to let that clip out
there is no other way

I ask about the intake air tube because I worked on a s/c 4tec once and had the same clip fly off also.

Turns out that the RIVA cold air tube was pushing down on the carbon seal assy. causing mis alignment. :cheers:

Nope, not kiddin'. True story. It wasn't a he, it was a she, and I was so stunned by the response I was speechless. And I AIN'T the speechless type. I have told her since then "that if you have to ask to ride it ...the answer is no". And I wont be offering. Done.

Oooh I like that. None have ever offered before - or ever will probably. It's just annoying when for 15+ years (not kidding) that
family had a boat and I never ONCE asked to take it out (as much as I might have wanted to to get some uh...private time...with the
wife on the lake...:reddevil. Not once - but apparently it's OK to hit me up.

I agree with the consensus: No, not a dink. I've learned the hard way that PEOPLE ARE DUUUUUUMB! You can sit there and explain to them how to operate the machine and give them all the pointers, but it takes a lot of experience to get the hang of operating a PWC. Also, all this explaining takes a lot of time. You may miss something in the explanation, and there is absolutely no telling how much they retain. You own a pretty expensive piece of machinery and I think that's just too much to risk to a noob who knows only of the GO lever. Most people don't mean to mess something up, they're just entirely ignorant and/or oblivious to it.

As for the carbon ring clip coming off, well.... I really can't imagine why it would come out either. It's ironic that it happened though, as seadoo developed this concept to prevent EXACTLY this problem from their old-style grease packed shaft seals. I don't get how your SC got chewed up. Did the water do that? I bet they tried to start it when it was nearly sunk...

the only way i let someone ride my ski is if im on the back with them.. only one person will take my ski without me and thats my buddy who rides so we flip flop every now and then..

in short no, your not a dink.. if your money is in the ski then you have every right to say no.. i think every rider has to have one experience where someone else wrecks their ski to say no from then on..

water hit the carger and ate the fins, they fired it up when they noticed it sinking at the gas pump,
I told them if any thing seems wrong shut it off,
in this case some thing was wrong and they fired it up
