Advice on 1993 SPX Please

Good Morning,
A friend passed on his 1993 SPX to me because he couldnt start it. It has not been run for 2 yrs. I have got it started. I found an bad spark plug connection at the plug end, front cyl. However once I started it, with water supplied to flush out connection, the drivetrain seized and stopped the engine. I am deducing this because the drive shaft became very hot in front of the black rubber cover with the hose clamps. I was not hot at the flywheel. I am a HVAC technician, so I have some tools, What I would appreciate is advice and where to go from here. Thank you.

Hi and welcome to the SeaDoo forum.

I would bet that your carrier seal bearing is shot. These usually fail from lack of maintenance, they need a couple of pumps of grease every time you ride. You will need to rebuild your drive shaft. There are several rebuild kits available or you can get the individual part by clicking "PARTS" at the top of this page.

Thank you for your reply. Do the rebuild kits cover everything that should be addressed? What is the best way to accommplish this? Is the Seadoo Shop manual procedure the way to do this. They recommend building a pulling tool from metal stock?

By pulling tool, are you talking about removing the pump? Usually the pump comes free just by pulling on it. If the previous owner glued the pump to the hull you may need a small prybar.

I should have stated my question more clearly. What is the best way to access these components for a drive shaft rebuild? Dissassembly from the rear (impeller housing removal forward) or is there a better way? Thank you.

Also,I see an aftermarket kit here: http://osdparts.com/index.php?main_page=product_free_shipping_info&cPath=2&products_id=66 . Is this a valid argument?
