Adding Wake Tower or Ski Bar on 01 Utopia 185

Hi All,

I just bought a 01 Seadoo Utopia 185 for a smokin deal and I'm going to use it for cruising on the lake but also want to be able to wakeboard when we have friends over at the cottage and such and want it to be a bit better then just using the hook on the back of the boat.

I thought of adding a wake tower but it seems a bit "Excessive" here is the one I looked into: http://shop.monstertower.com/p-126-mte-universal-wakeboard-tower.aspx

None of us are pro wakeboarders by any means so we wouldn't be jumping or anything so I then thought of adding a Ski Pylon like this: http://www.premiumpowersports.com/Swivl-Eze-Adjustable-Height-Pro-Ski-Pylon-p-342.html since it would give us a bit more height then the hook but not as "hard core" as the tower.

Anyone have any advice/suggestions/comments?

Guess if you plan on wakeboard'n, might as well "dive in", then get'n "feet wet".

Any boat (w/ right power) will work, just not that many people on forum w/ Utopia's that have towers...

Hi Jerome,
Congrat's on tour new Utopia. I just picked mine up 3 weeks ago. Now if the weather would just co-operate :ack: Is yours the 200HP?
Being a newbie, I am more along the line of just enjoying my Utopia "just as it is" for now. I am adding a Hawkeye depth gauge that I bought on ebay and need to invest in a mooring and bow covers but personally, don't see the value in a wake tower (just my opinion though and that could change eventually).
Have you done any towing yet? How has your boat performed?
Cheers,
Richard

Hey Richard,

I'm picking up the boat on Saturday and bringing it home to detail it and maybe add some more audio power then it's going to the cottage the weekend after for the summer so I haven't used it yet.

I wanted a wake tower because myself and all my friends will be wake boarding all the time so I would imagine it would be better then to use the tow hook.

I'm trying to find a universal pop up wake tower like they have on the Seadoo Wake's but I don't think that exists.

Jay

tower tower tower. You will get tired of the pole one being in the way and having to make sure its tight. I know mosy companies have a universal tower. Call Moster and just ask them what to use. Plus a tower is a grat place for more speakers.

Well, good luck with your new toy Jerome and I guess that if you get a tower, it gives you the most flexibility.
Happy motoring!
Richard

Did you get that tower? How'd the install go? I have a Utopia 205 and a monster tower, installing tomorrow.

Utopian Newbies

Jerome & Richard,

Congrats. I am hoping to follow in your foot steps with a 2001 Utopia 185, maybe even this week. Monster Tower does seem to have some photos of Utopias with towers. They look great, and I remember how switching from a stern hitch to a pole really made it more fun as a teenager. I can see a tower in my future as well.

But my guys are small for now and I am not sure if I need the tower just yet for the floating wienie tow toy. Depth finder is on the list. also switching audio from cassette to MP3.

Can you tell me if a) your trailers are SeaDoo and b) if they have brakes?

John

Well, if you look at my other posts I am having engine issues so a Tower will not be added any time soon :(

I have a Karavan trailer that is Galvanized with the swing away tongue and LED lights but it does not have brakes. We haven't had any issues with towing the boat.

Hey there jshaley,
My trailer is a Karavan and there are no brakes. I don't believe that there is such a thing as an actual Seadoo trailer - they come from third party trailer manufacturers and are just painted/decaled up.

Good luck on your hunt!

Installed the tower yesterday afternoon. It went very well. Easier than I thought. Access to hull was not an issue at all. I'll send pics of my mounting locations and the resulting folding location. I didn't mount it so it folds down onto the back seat. It folds down on the sun deck, which still fits nicely under the mooring cover. I'm very happy with the install. Very robust.
