Adding Oil onto a different oil

It's currently having the carbs rebuilt, Gas drained, Fuel lines replaced, wear ring replaced, jet pump oil ect

The previous owner has been using a TC-W3 synthetic blend oil which from what I have read is wrong, So I don't want to continue using this

Being that the oil tank is full of the incorrect oil, What procedure can I take to start using a different oil?

I am switching to quicksilver PWC and I would like to run fully synthetic. Quicksilver is easily obtained in my area so I am choosing to go that route over XPS as in a pinch, I would not be able to locate that oil.

I don't know if I should try to drain the current oil out of the tank? or if I could just add the new oil on top of it?

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Thank you for your time

MAKE SURE YOU GET ALL OF IT OUT!!!!! YOU HAVE A 951 SO YOU NEED TO DO EVERYTHING CORRECT IF YOU WANT IT TO LAST.......just unhook the line from the bottom of the oil tank and let it drain out intto a container...then replace the oil filter and bleed the lines...DO NOT add oil to it

i'm pretty sure the 951 only needs an oil feed for the oil pump since there's no rotary valve. so, pinch off the line and disconnect at the filter, then pull the tank, drain, and clean, replace the filter, pull the line off the injection pump and drain it. then hook everything back together and open the bleeder screw on the pump to let the new oil flow into the pump and get all the air out. you might want to mix up a small amount of premix to run on, and disconnect the injector lines to purge the old oil out, rather than continuing to run it with the TCW-3 oil. OR, you could pull the pump off the engine and spin it with a drill to flush the old oil out and push the fresh stuff into the lines. also not a bad time to replace the oil injection lines while you're in there.

Yep... what he said.

Use a hand pump, and draw out all the old oil. Then... pull the hose at the pump to let it drain totaly. THEN.... change the filter.

Not all 2-stroke oils will mix, and sometimes bad things happen. (like they will gel) If you get the oil turning into pudding... then the engine will die.

Here's a filter that was cut open after a failure, from mixing oil.

:leaving:

I will need to stare at my seadoo for a while (when I get it back), and then reread what you said, and then stare at my manual to figure out where everything is that you have mentioned. I could ask the shop to do it that is doing all the work on it, But that would just be another thing added onto the bill

I'd go w/the XPS, you can have it delivered via many online stores... but that's your choice.

I agree w/all the above, you should also take the opportunity to change the oil filter. (as mentioned above).

clean your RAVEs while your in there!

You CAN change that filter w/the pipe in place. I know, I've done it, it's lots of fun ;)

Parker's shipping is always too high... nice outfit, but the shipping is unrealistic.

Yeah I figured that out after I posted that, They wanted $15 to ship just the filter. $35 to ship a gallon of XPS to me. Crazy

Found a place, b&d marine online. They have both the oil and the filter and shipping is only $12 so I can't beat that

ya, nothing pisses me off more than high shipping, the last part I ordered from Watcom was $18 and $13 shipping (for a water filter shaped just like the oil filter), (a flat rate priority box would have been $5) needless to say, its probably the last part i order from them. I don't mind somebody up charging a buck or two but not 200% :(

wait check here that were i get all mine from he is great to work with and shipping is free

That's my local dealer. He's about 10 min up the street from me. They have some kick-a$$ deals in the spring time. I bought 3 neoprene seadoo life jackets last year for about $60. (all 3) Normally they are about $60 each.

BUT.... I was there last week, and they were out of the yellow bottle. Hope they got more in.

2 gallons a few weeks ago from OSD, but I doubt that will last me the summer, I'm now down to 1.25 gallons... burnt 5.75 gallons so far this summer lol!

I wasn't offended :) I try to do research before I post because I realize how annoying it must be for people to have to reply to the same type of threads over and over again. but sometimes I get confused and want to clarify things before I go rushing into them "thinking" I understand.

I've only been a PWC owner for barely 2 weeks and I bought used to see how much I would actually use it before taking the dive and getting into payments on a new one. Plus I want to make sure I can take care of it properly. I sent mine into the shop on Monday to take care of some things that I didn't feel confident doing (carb rebuild, wear ring replacement, fuel lines replaced, ) while it was in there the shop found a few other issues that I would of missed on my own (They found water in the jet pump where the oil is) and they have thankfully been very helpful and given me a lot of information regarding each thing they are doing and showing me it instead of just telling me it needs fixed.

I'm thinking this oil thing is something I can take care of on my own thanks to you guys giving me all of that information

no problem......glad u understand ....you will love that gtx you have a 951 and they are crazy fast with lots of power.....but its a 2 stroke and all the new ones are 4 strokes..so sadly they will be very different...in my opinion the new ski's suck..they are too big.....just take care of that 951 and it will do the same for you and you will love it.....have fun and post if you need help...try not to go to the dealership LOL make the hubby do it!!!

lol thanks. Nah no hubby, Which is why I have to learn these things on my own. My dad is very mechanically inclined but not so much when it comes to watercraft. I took it to a local guy, doesn't have a real big establishment but took the time to talk to me about everything.

I've put about 5 hours on it, It seems pretty fast (plenty fast for me, and faster than my friend's yamaha and GTI so I can't complain) but due to dirty fuel and dirty carbs it wasn't quite 100% when I've rode it. I'm excited to get it on the water next weekend now that it will be all tuned up and cleaned out
