A few questions about my recently purchased RXP

Hello everyone, this site has a lot of good information but I still have a few questions. First off I'm mechanically inclined and I've owned a few other jet ski's before but this is a first time for a Seadoo.

First question has been probably asked a lot, but every thread I've read turned into a huge discussion. So..... what oil are we supposed to use? I've read partially syn, to full syn. Which one other than the expensive stealership brand?

Once I get home I'm going to change the oil and get it ready to take out so I'd like to get this oil and filter ordered in advance.

Second, I've heard its near impossible to capsize these things but IF you do, do you have to turn it a specific way? I know some skis they mention to only turn it to the left or right, not sure if that applies to this particular model.

Again, sorry if this has already been asked, I know this is my first time post but I did use the search option and looked at the stickys.

Thanks guys!
-Steve

In response to your second question, there is a sticker on the transom of your boat that shows which way to flip it.

The 4tecs can be flipped over either direction so there is no sticker. Not hard to flip over an RXP at all, flip mine all the time, especially when riding with 2 people. Your seadoo has a TOPS system that is made just for that occasion to protect the motor.

Oil is a big debate but you should not use synthetic oil in your RXP. It will cause the sc to slip sooner than it should and wear out the slip washers faster. Some say you can use semi-synthetic, I disagree.

Also, has your sc been rebuilt with metal washers? If not, should be done right away. The ceramic washers are not a good thing.

The seadoo brand oil bomardier is mfg by Castrol, so you decide for yourself but any good quality 10W-40 will work well, imo.

like ski-doo says any oil should work
but im parinoid so i put in seedoo oil
and never look back, changing the oil
once a year wont kill me

Thanks for the replies everyone. I ordered a kit from Ebay that has the correct oil, filter, o-rings, and spark plugs. Ought to be a nice minor tune up before taking this out for the first time this year since it is still winterized. As far as the washers go on the supercharger, I honestly don't know. Are the ceramic ones breaking up and causing some serious problems? I'll look around for a thread unless you have a direct link to this problem. Again thanks for the replies everyone!

Thanks again, I'll look into the SC. Also, one other question; I've spent the whole day trying to find paint for this ski. All I'm looking for is some touch up paint for the hood and mirror, long story how it got scratched but I can't find anyone that has the Maya Gold Paint available for purchase. Ideas?

re your oil change...

I use $3-$5 valvoline 10w40..here's the kicker...4stroke motorcycle oil.
-very important that last-

no friction modifiers as you have a wet clutch in the sc.

1. As far as paint goes, haul it to a large napa or professional auto paint store, have them bring their camera out and do a photo color match. Make sure you get them to set up a single stage paint. The minimum you can get will be in the pint or quart soooo you will have alot of touchup paint. If you have any questions about how to mix it and the paint shop is rude (as most are) just post back and ill explain it. Its pretty easy but just make sure you get single stage with hardener.

2. If I am not mistaken the 05 had the ceramic washers that can cause serious problems. If it breaks and is not caught by one of the screens or filters, it will cause major damage to the motor (very common cause of pretty yard ornaments). You said you are mechanically inclined so whatever you do, dont pay anyone hundreds of dollars to do the repair. It is literally 3 bolts to take it out, one nut to remove the springs and clutches. I use an impact to replace the nut and thats the rebuild. It is easy and if you want to pay someone pm me and I will charge you half of what the dealer does, including shipping back to you. If you do want to do the work yourself (i recommend it) I can set you up with the guy I get my parts from, he has great parts at a good price and shipps the same day. without the tool kit you are looking at about 90$. + if you dont already own an inverted torques set (harbor frieght tools online) 8.99. You can get a package deal for the tool kit as well (usful but not required) 120-150. I recommend when you do the clutches you do the springs too. (you will understand when you do it because it is soooo easy).
