I will be putting in new pistons and rings this weekend and I have a few questions...

1st: what should I do to clean up the cylinder walls? Should I just take some steel wool to them? Maybe some mineral spirits? Someone told me they are nickle so you need to be carefull, is this true?

2nd: What should I do to break in the ski after the rebuild?

Thanks

take cylinders to machine shop, and have them hone it, then "mike" it, for "true. Maybe need a bore.

how much does it generally cost for a cylinder to be honed? and how much for a bore?

I have a guy that does it for 40 bucks a hole.....He is local and all the shops send stuff to him and then they jack up the price. I usually order my pistons the next size bigger and then bring jugs and pistons to his shop. I have not used him for the seadoos yet but if I had to I would. So I would say you can expect tp py around 50 buck per cylinder. Wait till you have your new pistons though. He only charges 20 a hole for a hone...

Ok thanks for the reply, man this is getting expensive  do you think I will need to hone out both cylinders no matter what? even the cylinder that had nothing wrong with it? I only have the bad cylinder here so if I can get away with just a hone do I still have to do the other one?

out here, a hone is 10 buks each. Hit-up ur local machine shop, with ur cylinders and see what they say.
