I bought a 99 GTX RFI two years ago. Ran great for a year, then I began to have trouble with it after a local dealer worked on it. At the end of last summer, it would not even turn over. Found oil in cylinders. Took it to a mechanic. He says it has a bad crank seal. Costly to fix and dealer says it isn't worth fixing. I have rebuild engines as a kid, but don't want to tackle this job. Is it worth fixing? How much time? What should it cost?

If it is in both cylinders it is possible its just the seal on the rotary valve shaft, and not the crank seals. Typically only one side leaks when its the crank seals.

give it a shot, whats the worst can happen. If you try sell'n the way it is,..its still blown up (if thats the case/bad inner seals), so recheck to see if one or both cylinders are puking, then go from there. If both, do what Minn... said, replace the rv seal..good luck. If any ?'s, were a "click" away.

Thanks for the info. It is hard to find anyone arouond here to work on it. The dealer says it isn't worth fixing. I use to take two cycles apart as a kid, so I know it isn't rocket science. But I really don't want to do the work. How do you find good mechanics in your area (within 100 miles)?
