You guys were so much help with my 93 GTS that I thought I would try again and see if you can help with my second ski.

Have owned this one since 2007 and it has always had some issues starting. Our mechanic told us if he put a primer on it and removed the choke that we would have no more problems. This has been a source of major frustration and it was harder to start than before.

I went out to prime the carb (5-10) pulls, and then tried starting the ski with no success. The engine turns over just fine. The plugs are both sparking. All of my fuses are fine. I pulled off the fuel filter under the front compartment and only had a minimal amount of fuel come out. In the bottom of the filter housing was some gray substance that felt kind of clay like.

I then noticed the lines that the mechanic hooked up to the primer and could not see any fuel in these lines. Could my fuel filter in the tank be clogged not letting any fuel out of the tank? I don't want to pull the tank if I don't have to and am looking for any suggestions that might point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

DC

have you tried replacing the grey fuel lines. Check the fuel valve selector and pipes coming out of it and make sure they're not 'gunked' up. Could your fuel pump be shot?
Sounds like the fuel pumps not priming so it could be that.

I just pulled the fuel pump (baffle?) out of the tank. It looks clean and there was minimal debris on the bottom (filter) of it. I am checking all of the lines to make sure there is no leak thinking that it is not pressurizing the system. The gray lines are the tempo lines and I have read to replace those while I am at it. Am going to get new hose later today and try to replace as many as I can.

Hey Trojan, just a heads up, but even with replacing the grey fuel lines, you'll still need to get into the carbs, and clean those filters..

That is what I figured. Right now I'm trying to figure out why my primer is not pulling any fuel into the system and why I'm not getting any fuel period.

:agree: clean carbs & filters in carbs "if not rebuild them", new fuel lines, clean out fuel selector valve

The fuel pump was clear. I found out that the primer has gone bad and am replacing it. As far as getting to the filter in the carb, do I need to take out many parts to get to it. I am new to working on my skis and am only taking things out/off that seem easy to figure out.

Thanks!

fuel pump is on the mag carb, bud...;)

reach behind the pipe, at the top, and you'll feel a metal latch. Pull it toward you to release the airbox, then remove the 2-vent tubes, on each side of motor. Snorkel out the remaining airbox, then you have access to the carbs. Remove the return and pulse line..they're visible between the pipe, then, i remove the o-ring around the topside of carbs. Now remove the 4-bolts holding the carbs on, along with the one bolt thats threaded into the pipe..(has bracket on it). Once carbs are free, manuever them around to remove the fuel line and the throttle/oil cable, and from there, proceed to remove the carbs.

Talked to my old mechanic today and he said he had just cleaned the carb last year and that I should be ok to replace the fuel lines and the primer. Did all that and it fired right up with the primer. Now my red light is flashing and I don't know why. Any thoughts?

Seadooya, thanks for the tip on moving the airbox! No way I would have gotten to everything without that being out of the way.

Thanks!

Key words.."should be OK"....i'm rebuilding a gsx-ltd(951) for that reason, the carbs/filters were plugged up, and "played" a role into the PTO cylinder having 30psi. I'd tear them off Trojan, just to be sure....also, you know the hrs you got on it since the carbs were "gone" through, with the grey fuel lines?

We ran them less that 10 hours last year! I'm just nervous about taking the carbs off and trying to put them back together! May have to do that if I cant figure out the flashing red light!

Thanks!

occasionally with my 2001 rx (951 motor) i get the blinking oil light too but only when i am first starting. to be honest dont let the air box trick you. you may have to remove the battery first to get the whole air box out. once its all out of their you will have free reign on getting the carbs out. 2 tips ps on removing the carbs... see if you have the socket adapter in metric... i think its a 5.5 or a 6 to remove the carbs off. dont try to disconnect any lines until the carbs are separated from the motor.... it just makes it alot easier

your no fuel issue may be the same as mine. when you pull the carbs off, you should be able to move the throttle plate... when you do this you SHOULD HEAR A SQUIRT... this is your accell pump. when i pulled my carbs off after sitting for only a year with the same tempo lines i found that they were gummed up in the carb but the biggest thing was that my accel pump jets were clogged BIG time.

so heres 2 hints. A. become a premium member and download the manual for your ski and print out the carb schematic so you can see how its all put together FIRST.

B. take your time. dont rush

get a can of good carb cleaner (any local autoparts store) i prefer b12.
lots of q tips
air compressor with the blowing pistol grip attachment
get a long screw driver or even a drill with a light hammer type setting (i use my dewalt and put it on the lightest torque setting 1
take the carbs apart one side at a time. inspect and clean all the channels and the little black filter inside of the carb

let us know if you need any more help!
