99 GTS Reverse not working...

I bought this 99 Seadoo GTS and it had a broken reverse cable, near the threaded rod at the rear of the ski.

I bought a replacement cable on ebay and installed it today. Now when I twist/pull the handle the reverse gate, if that's what it's called. comes down fully and blocks the water coming out the back. but the ski doesn't go backwards. It just sits there and makes lots of 'white water' at the back.

What did I miss ?

Not sure, but is there a way to adjust the cable so the gate gets pulled down farther? Sounds like it's in "neutral".

reverse really isn't a good reverse, you'll just creep backward somewhat uncontrollably. sounds like you need to adjust the bucket lower as stated above but don't expect reverse to be like forward.

I find reverse to be quite useless. Mine will sometimes move me backwards at a decent pace, sometimes it will more or less just sit there. Kinda depends on what the water is doing around the ski. My best use for it is slowing down so I don't slam into the dock if there are other boat wakes around.

Well... I believe you're on to the problem. I looked closer at the gate when down and i could still see about 1 inch of the water was escaping. I'll figure out how to move the cable further to the back so it closes a bit more. I'll report how it goes. Thanks for the suggestions.
