hello ..im pulling my hair out trying to figure out what is wrong with my ski..i bought it a month back ..bought 2 used 99s one is a gti the other is a gtx . the gti will start good on land but once in the water if I give it gas it dies right off u might get to 1/4 throtel. then it falls flat on its face...here is what I have done so far checked compression..front cyl..148..back one 144....rebuilt carb...changed all the fuel lines... new batt....new plugs.. cut 1/4 inch on the plug wires. cleaned ground ...checked most of the connections.. ..when I first bought it it did this and still after all this doing the same as the day I got it.. any help would be great ..thanks for your help

Well it sounds like you have definitely done your homework which I applaud you for and giving us most of the info we need. A couple things tho. Did you replace the fuel selector switch or verify yours is clean and free flowing? Also, did you put the carb back to OEM specs, check pop off? Etc. What detail did you go into on the carb rebuild? Genuine Mikuni parts or aftermarket? Don't worry I'm sure we will get you runnin in no time
when I changed the fuel lines I cleaned out the fuel switch sprayed carb cleaner and blowed it out with air. the carb I don't know how to check the pop off..but did replace with factory parts ..the filter was clean and the carb was clean .the diaphram looked weak so changed it.when I took the screw off filter it had a little bit in it but not to stop fuel flow.was cleaner then I was hoping for..

did u clean the transfer ports in the lower portion of the carb throat?,there are 3 holes,1 small hole,and 2 little tiny holes,i use a torch tip cleaner to stick in them,and then blow carb cleaner thru them,almost every set i do lately have been clogged.,i would have never known they were there,but dr honda pointed them out in a pik once.smart dude right there!

If donkey's advice still doesnt fix it, try to find the original spring in the carb and put it back in there; the little one under the arm that holds the needle against the seat. Sometimes the new ones are a little stiff raising the pop off pressure. Also, Make sure you aren't sucking air from anywhere either, like the seal on the stock strainer or any of the nipples and the pulse line.

I'd say you have carb issues. On a regulator carb... there is no guessing. You either know it works... or it doesn't. Everything has to be right.
So... take them apart... check EVERY part... check EVERY port/passage, and put them back together, as per spec. Then... it will run.
i think i got it fixed...i took the carb off again today to clean it again..when i went to unhook the cable that's on the bottom of the carb ( i think it goes to the oil injector thing) . i seen it does not move . the return spring had come off. i cleaned the carb again and fixed the spring. went to the lake and all is well has a slight bog off idle but get to 47 mph quick. thanks all for your help. i think the bog is it needs to be rode or slight carb adjustment ...lol..good luck all hope yall have a great riding season
