98 Sportster ...wear ring?

Hey guys, when I tried to tow some people this weekend, or when i try to accelerate really quickly, my RPMS are jumping all the way up, but the boat isnt really responding.... I equate it to a sorta transmission slip in a car. Does this sound like the wear rings are bad. I've read alot about them being fixed on the skis but not to much on my particular model boat....difficult at all? Thnks:confused:

Are you keeping your weight balanced in the boat? If all your weight is in the rear it will be much harder to plane. What you are experiencing is cavitation. New wear rings and new impellers with a better slope will help too.

yeah its all balanced. Like i said if i run it by myself and try and "get up and go" then i have the same issue. I have to ease the throttle up to WOT before i can really get her to run.
Gonna try the wear rings i think but, impellers....WOO that just sounds to damn pricey for me at this point.
Any other suggestions? I've read a little about the carbon rings causing this kind of problem as well. Anyone know which would be the easiest route to try first? (carbon vs wear rings)

either way stud, you'll need to pull the pupms. Undo the steering cable and f/r cable from starboard pump, then remove the 4-nuts on each pump, at the hull. Then pull entire assy off. Sounds intimidating, but not, will take 10min.
Then inspect the wear rings, and while these are off, remove grwey shields from back of motors, and where the carbon ring is, push the steel collar toward back, to expose the snap ring. Pop it off, then jump back out of boat, and pull driveshaft out (may need to unpop the clamps on grease/dust boots) Now, you can inspect the carbon ring, and "lap" the steel collar...

cool, sounds like a plan. I'll do that after I fix my newly broken shifter cable lol! Yeah, there's an experience.....you ever have ur shifter break just as u goose it to load onto the trailer? Yeah thats fun, especially considering it wouldnt let me throw it into reverse or neutral or throttle down to stop it HA HA! Thank God i thought quick enough to kill the motors or I would went through the tailgate of the truck. Speaking of, has anyone tried to weld the metal rod that ties into the shifter...cause I cant find any of the shifter cable parts on SDwarehouse, and i think the weld would be strong enough to take the abuse...any thoughts?
