98 gsx limited gauge test

I have a 1998 gsx limited with no gauge life. I have taken the gauges out and hooked up a 12 volt power supply directly to the purple wire and grounded the black one on each gauge. So I know the gauges are getting power but I see no sign of life in either one. Am I doing this right ? Shouldn't I see something light up or a needle flicker or something ?? any help appreciated. thanks

depends on how the signaling works I believe. Guages are usually fairly cheap on ebay or check with minetonka, he sells quality used parts.

thanks sabrtoothsqrl, I bought the ski as a project and have never seen the gauges working. When it gets power shouldn't the info gauge show hours ?? I think that would be in its memory and wouldn't need a signal. or am I way off ??

with power the info one should show the current time and heading.

Buy a used one. MineTonka on this forum sells good used parts. (I can never spell his name though).
