I just had my top end rebuilt and I installed it a few nights back. I cant get it to start. My compression checks good. The battery cranks strong. I wasnt sure if the carb had a problem, I did clean it before reassembling the motor. Since I cant start it I did swap the carb from the other motor that starts fine. Also swapped fuel filters. I have spark. The other motor that starts good is still starting good with the other carb and filter on it. With more throttle during crank it sounds like it will turn over but doesnt. It will also sputter a little after releasing the start button but never starts. Ive been trying all I know but Im out of options now. I also tried venting the exhaust. Please help me with any info. Thx

Thx for your input tony. Yes I did verify the carbs werent an issue. I will now look into whats involved with the timing and to find out if a rookie like me can tackle it. Also, would you think its possible the gray lines under the carbs could cause this problem ? I am now searching for info on those lines. Thx

Yep, good call on the timing. Thats exactly what it was. I followed the info posted in the thread " inside a 787" . Now Im looking for recommendations on breaking it in. Thx for the help

Some extra oil in the gas. Keep it below 4000 RPM for the first hour and don't let it sit at one RPM that long. Let it cool down, and run the rest of the tank of fuel out staying away from wide open throttle for long periods of time.

I'm sure some others will chime in too

:agree:

That's about right.

Add enough oil to your fuel tank to make it 50:1. Don't hold any RPM for too long. I break them in a little harder than most... but as long as you have extra oil... you will be fine.
