I normally don't do these kinds of threads, but there appear to be a few on here so I thought I'd add mine
plus you seem to be a pretty cool group of guys and I'm sure your vast amount of knowledge on these boats will help me out.
So, started out with my '97 Speedster I got a few days ago. Have already cleaned it out (holy crap was it full of mud, dirt, debris...), taken all the seats out to be reupholstered, drained all the fuel out of the tank.....and thats about it haha.
Plans for it are first of all to get the motors up and running. From what I was told one driveshaft is possibly bent. Other than that, don't know if they run or not. I will probably try and turn them over by hand to see if they even move first, maybe borescope the cylinders and see if there is any major damage in there. Was thinking of doing a carb clean, maybe rebuild since I'm sure they've had bad gas sitting in them for God only knows how many years. After that, I'll just wing it I suppose.
Well that's about as far as I've gotten so far. With race season coming up and me needing new boots, gloves, helmet and so on I'll try to do as much work on the boat as possible. Having to look after two kids will also put a damper on my speed of rebuild haha, but I'll do what I can. I'll try to keep you guys updated with pictures and progress.
Wish me luck!
