I normally don't do these kinds of threads, but there appear to be a few on here so I thought I'd add mine :) plus you seem to be a pretty cool group of guys and I'm sure your vast amount of knowledge on these boats will help me out.

So, started out with my '97 Speedster I got a few days ago. Have already cleaned it out (holy crap was it full of mud, dirt, debris...), taken all the seats out to be reupholstered, drained all the fuel out of the tank.....and thats about it haha.

Plans for it are first of all to get the motors up and running. From what I was told one driveshaft is possibly bent. Other than that, don't know if they run or not. I will probably try and turn them over by hand to see if they even move first, maybe borescope the cylinders and see if there is any major damage in there. Was thinking of doing a carb clean, maybe rebuild since I'm sure they've had bad gas sitting in them for God only knows how many years. After that, I'll just wing it I suppose.

Well that's about as far as I've gotten so far. With race season coming up and me needing new boots, gloves, helmet and so on I'll try to do as much work on the boat as possible. Having to look after two kids will also put a damper on my speed of rebuild haha, but I'll do what I can. I'll try to keep you guys updated with pictures and progress.

Wish me luck!

good luck with the rebuild, they are fun boats once running.

Post up some pics when you can.

Ok, so I gave the engines a decent look over today. Ran compression test on em and whatnot. Have good and bad news to report. Good news is I will have two good running motors. Bad news is I have to rebuild both of them haha.

The port engine is by far the worst. It seems to not want to turn over when there is any sort of compression on the fwd cylinder. Not sure why yet. The other cylinder compression tested decent, but the fwd one wouldn't move the needle....yeah so I dunno. It's the first one out to get rebuilt.

Starboard engine isn't as bad, just has very low compression in the aft cylinder. Fwd cylinder isn't bad, but I'm going to have to rebuild it anyways.....

Are there any other decent kits besides the SBT ones? They just seem somewhat pricey at almost 800 bucks.

I'm posting this from my phone, hopefully the pictures work if not I'll fix them later.

These are the port engine's cylinders, pic 2 is fwd, 3 is aft. Pretty sure there is water in there haha

Pretty sure it's not supposed to look like this down in the block haha

Will more than likely order a top end kit at the end of the week. In the mean time, I'll probably pull the pump and check the driveshaft, make sure it's not bent. Not sure which one was supposedly bent, so I guess I'd better check both. What all should I check on the jets while I have them off?
