Hi all,
I pulled the trigger last week on a 1997 speedster. The boat was in much better condition than the other used boats I had looked at. I took it for a test drive and the engines started right up, idled well and the boat accelerated and handled well.
Labor day weekend was my first chance to spend a lot of time on the boat and I observed a couple things that I wanted to ask you seasoned pros about. I took the boat out on Saturday and then left it uncovered overnight on the trailer becaused I planned to put it right back in the water Sunday morning. There was a lot of condensation all over everything and after I ran the bilge blower and switched it off I lost all power to the boat. I opened the bilge hatch and fiddled with wires and made sure the battery cables were secured. All of a sudden power was restored, so it was not a blown fuse. I was able to recreate this problem once more and then I never experienced it again. I could not trace the exact source of the problem....any ideas?
Also, when starting the engines I noticed that the left engine needed a much longer warm-up period than the right engine. If I throttled the left engine up to 3-4K RPM it would cut out on me. This went away after I let it idle for a minute or two. Is this normal with these two-stroke motors or is there something wrong? Carb cleaning/adjustment/rebuild maybe?
